Characters talk, okay? They do whether you want it or not. They tell their stories, advance your story, deliver crucial exposition, and sometimes they are narrating something off camera.
They appear as branching dialogues, linear scenes, barks, and fluff text. It’s the one go-to tool that people use to deliver stories and yet it’s the one that should be used only as the last resort.
They say you can’t teach dialogue writing. I kinda agree, but it doesn’t hurt to try. I’ll make a daring attempt to share with you what can be done to write a great dialogue in game. Or fail miserably.
