Acid Wizard Studio
Making Darkwood - the trials and tribulations of rookie indie developers
1/3rd of Acid Wizard Studio. Responsible for all of the technical and programming aspects, the majority of production, marketing, PR, community management, and (together with the other Wizards) game design. Previously a 3d artist and animator, he started to learn programming while working on Acid Wizard Studio’s debut game – Darkwood. Currently taking a break from game development, while trying to survive as a stay-at-home dad.
Hear the story of the creation of Darkwood – the game that started off as a simple tower defence game meant to be completed in one month of working after hours. It ultimately lead their rookie creators on a grand and arduous 5 year adventure, transforming Darkwood into a unique, semi-procedurally generated, open world, top-down survival horror with RPG and roguelike elements, a branching story with decisions and consequences and rich lore.
Learn about the (many) mistakes its creators made, so you don’t have to! See what it’s like to jump into the vast ocean of game development and publishing with a team of three people and a over-ambitious project, with next to no experience! Hear what was going through their minds as they unveiled the game for the first time, went through a (slightly dramatic) crowdfunding campaign and survived a 3-year crunch during Early Access on Steam.

– You’re feeling burned out in your current job.
– You want to get insight into the indie state of mind.
– You just want to have a laugh at the naive, or sometimes downright stupid decisions we’ve made.
