How to apply an Eight Golden Rules of interface design in game interface
Assistant Professor at the Institute of Information Technology, Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics, Lodz University of Technology. In 2015 he received PhD degree in computer science for interactive information visualization for digital data sets search results.
Awarded, among others, with a gold medal with distinction on International Warsaw Invention Show (IWIS), Award of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding inventions on the international stage and Best UI Design from Institute of Industrial Design.
He has participated in many national and international scientific projects as a UI / UX expert and software development specialist. Member of the organizing committee of the Conference on Game Innovations and the Team Game Development Competition (ZTGK) which is celebrating the tenth jubilee this year.
He is also an active visual artist. His works was presented at such exhibitions as Lodz Design Festival, Gdynia Design Days, The Poster Museum (Wilanów, Warsaw) and Piotrkow’s Art Biennale.
He mentored over thirty innovative student projects, many of which were awarded on international competitions such as Microsoft Imagine Cup (including 2016 Game category winner and National Team in international finals) and Digital Dragons Student and Talent Show.
His current publications concern UX and usability testing and engineering in Augmented Reality, Information-rich Virtual Environments, Virtual reconstructions, generative visual identity systems as well as application of information visualization in UI design.
Rules are good. Rules define the game. But what rules define the good User Interface (UI) or User Experience (UX)? Eight Golden Rules of interface design were created based on over three decades of research and experience. They form a guide to good interaction and information design and they are widely used in UI design process. Can the Eight Golden Rules support game interface design? How to implement each of them in video games domain? Do I have to be a Usability Engineering specialist to use them (spoiler: no 🙂 )? Apply Golden Rules in your project or game development process to achieve better UX. Or simply know the rules, so you can deliberately break them to create innovative interaction designs.
The speech will cover such topics as:
– What are Golden Rules of interface design.
– Who created them and why?
– How to apply them in game interface design.
– How they can support game development process.
– Are there only Eight Golden Rules?
