Chess & Checkers Games
Publishing a F2P game is just the start of development
Łukasz Oktaba is the owner of Chess & Checkers Games who in January 2015 created Checkers, a well-known game for Android with over 50 million downloads and 850K DAU. It was supposed to be just a part of his CV but as a result Łukasz became full-time Checkers developer. Now Chess & Checkers Games is a fast-growing company which has also other popular board games in its portfolio.
Have you ever thought about creating a F2P game? Or maybe you have already put in place that idea and you are wondering if your game has the growth potential?
I would like to share my experience in this field and present which are key parameters to evaluate a F2P game. As I have created this kind of game from scratch as a one-person team and finally my game Checkers has more than 50 million downloads on Google Play, I have some ideas on what is particularly important for indie developers and which can be the key success factors.
On one hand, I am going to focus on the data which can be easily analyzed even by the beginner such as retention or rating. As a newcomer you must not forget about App Store Optimization (ASO) – it significantly influences the organic installs but you need to be patient and aware of its principles.
On the other hand, everyone who plans to play a role on gaming market should be aware of the role of marketing and such ratios as Life Time Value (LTV) in comparison with Cost per Install (CPI).
Last but not least, F2P games can be a really profitable business so it is crucial to know how to make a monetization in an effective way. I am also going to share with you my experience concerning mediation as it usually has a positive and rapid impact on the revenue.
