The speech is prepared for general audience interested in the area of Virtual Reality. I would like to point out what are the problems with current VR experiences and where all the efforts should head in order to find and design the “VR killer app”. The speech will be light-weighted, packed with a mixture of technology and art. The intention is to make the audience to think about the future of VR. The current trend in designing a “VR killer app” is to place a player in a space of constant threat and peril, where sensor stimulation leads to production of adrenaline. In my talk I’ll cover a different approach where we place a player into a solitude space, where peacefulness and playfulness can lead to spiritual and meditative states. Such “VR sanctuaries” may be the best virtual environments for people affected by everyday stress, having problems with depression or anxiety disorders.
