Michiel started his career as 50% of the programming team of Epic Megagames’ PC classic “Jazz Jackrabbit 2”. He did some game code, some engine code and then moved to be Technical Director of Guerrilla’s proprietary engine from 2006 on. After releasing a PlayStation 4 launch title – Killzone Shadow Fall – he helped transform Guerrilla’s engine from a First Person Shooter engine to a fully Open World one. This engine and toolset has been used to create the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn, got named as Decima at the same time that industry legend Hideo Kojima announced that they are collaborating with, and will be using Guerrilla’s engine in their upcoming title Death Stranding. Michiel still enjoys coding as part of his daily work.
