Crafting Emergent Narrative through Characters and Systems
Rémy Boicherot is a designer fascinated by games and emergent player stories. With an international background creating interactive entertainment in Paris, Prague, Singapore and San Francisco, he brings his expertise and passion to the craft of system design. After notably contributing to game and narrative systems in Mafia III, he currently works at Darewise Entertainment to create new and immersive virtual worlds.
Game systems have the amazing power to create engaging and unique emergent player stories through characters, sometimes represented by not more than a few pixels and text on a screen.
In this talk, we will look at games which successfully created emergent narrative and memorable system-driven characters, and will extract methodologies, tools and designs to try to reproduce it to future projects.
