Making of The Heretic
Robert has spent the last 10 years improving the Unity engine. He’s a programmer specialising in rendering – lighting and vfx in particular. After a few years of working on Unity’s rendering pipeline, he switched gears to help in the early days of a small, internal production team – Unity Demo Team. The team’s goal is to advance what’s possible with real-time rendering and drive innovation within Unity’s R&D division. Demo Team productions include Adam, Book of the Dead, and most recently – The Heretic, which Robert was the Technical Lead of.
The talk will cover the biggest challenges encountered during the production of The Heretic – a real-time short film made with Unity. We will go over technical details of animating and rendering a digital human, most notably: going beyond skeletal facial animation. We will also dive into vfx tools and techniques seen in the film and give an overview of rendering techniques.
