Beyond the Soundtrack - a journey in creating unique musical soundworlds for games
Starting from a childhood obsession with music and sound while growing up in a remote town in the Andes mountains, Brian’s passion for composing and storytelling led him to travel the world and master playing hundreds of musical instruments, as well as founding and leading multi-award winning ‘La Hacienda Creative Studios’ in Montreal. The current focus of his work is to create unique and distinctive interactive soundtracks and live performances that blend the best of ‘now’ with the wisdom of the ancients, drawing inspiration from nature and how this is expressed in current and past cultures. In addition to “Shadow of The Tomb Raider,” recent key works include games such ‘Tearaway’ (Media Molecule/SONY), “Resident Evil 7” (Capcom), and “Papo & Yo” (Minority Inc.).
Of all mediums, games offer an unparalleled canvas to express unique visions and experiences. In this spirit, Brian’s work as a composer and sound designer has focused on this openness as the driving force for inspiration within his creative process.
Whether it be journeying to lost villages in Mexico in search of rare Pre-Columbian musical knowledge or personally handcrafting paper instruments that sound larger than life, Brian fully immerses himself in his projects and breaks traditional boundaries of how music and sound are typically produced. In this talk, we will explore some of these unique processes and methodologies used to create the award-winning soundtracks on games such as ‘Shadow Of The Tomb Raider”, “Tearaway” and “Resident Evil 7.
