Movies influence on game storytelling
Katarzyna is an Animator and Layout Artists who received her Masters Degree in Animation in the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology and Post-Graduate Degree in Production Management in Łódź Film School. She also developed her skills in many international courses and trainings like iAnimate or Anomalia. As a co-creator and co-organizer created one of the biggest international moving type festival – Motyf. After graduation Katarzyna worked for a few years as an Animator and Layout Artist in Platige Image. During that time she worked on many big, international projects like: Fish Night (Love, Death and Robots – Animation Anthology for Netflix, which was awarded by 4 Emmy Awards and 5 Annie Awards), Division 2 E3 Cinematic, For Honor E3 Cinematic, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider E3 Cinematic, Total War Three Kingdoms Cinematic, Frostpunk Cinematic, Piloci – Roma Theatre Performance and many more. Katarzyna was also responsible for all animations in Jaguar DC Playground Commercial which received 2 Gold KTR Awards. As a freelancer Katarzyna worked for many production and postproduction studios in Poland like: Juice, Human Ark, Televisor, Animoon. She also moved to UK and worked for Outpost VFX studio on a big international TV series Watchmen (HBO). When she came back to Poland she joined Techland to develop new AAA game and work on Dying Light 2.
Movies and Games are not so far away from each other as many may have thought. Knowledge of movie techniques and cinematography used wisely may highly increase the quality of your game. In this speech we will focus on all of the storytelling techniques in both – games and movies. By analysing the importance of story, production workflow, cinematography techniques, camera work, acting and design we will try to work out how we can combine them to use in game production to create the best, most engaging games.
